As reported prior, storied bandleader and founding father of Asbury’s musical renaissance in late ’70s and ’80s, Southside Johnny, is back with reworked outfit of musicians featuring a couple of Jukes in Jeff Kazee and John Conte, a Stray Cat in Tommy Byrne, and a songstress in Soozie Tyrell (Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band).
Also reported prior was that Kazee, a renown area producer who most recently worked on Outside The Box‘s debut full-length Bridge, was also doing work on a new installment to the ongoing Beatles Complete On Ukelele project, which began in January 2009 and is set to commence in July of 2012, with Southside in the form of “I’m Down.”
On Monday, that song finally surfaced, and Johnny had some help from his new, but old, friends, as well multi-instrumental recording artist and session player Ira Seigel, who is currently on tour with The Bacon Brothers…a.k.a. Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael (couldn’t make that up)…and provides the necessary for the project ukelele play.
The tribute track features a charred croon from Southside resembling the pipe work of seasoned bayou bluesman more than the what the Jersey Shore music enthusiast is accustomed to hear floating down the boardwalk on a warm east side evening…grab it below:
Stay tuned for upcoming area dates for Southside & The Fools.
