New Music Review: Tango Machina Unplugs

If you’ve been keeping up with this blog, you know about this Rock triad, and the departure of its drummer Brian Winters.  However, on Wednesday evening, Tango Machina sent a message via Facebook to those that may have doubted if Tango would ride on.  It read: “OH WE AIN’T DONE WITH YOU YET FACEBOOK!!! Here’s an acoustic recording of “Miles,” our X-Mas gift to you!!! to stream. Stick around, much more to come in 2011. Happy holidays from your favorite band, that’s us.”

Attached to the message was the referenced recording and it showed a side of this band I’ve never heard before.  The track was intimate and showcased Paul Caffrey’s soulful vocals, which tend to go unnoticed when Tango cranks up its amps in cramped basements and bars.

According to Caffrey, he originally wrote “Miles” as an acoustic piece.  It will be interesting to see if Tango Machina ever unplugs during upcoming performances, since we now it can.  And, it appears there will be shows scheduled sooner rather than later as Caffrey revealed that the band has tried out drummers over the past few weeks, and believes it has found a formidable replacement for Winters.
