Tango Machina Reveals New Drummer

A little more than a month ago Tango Machina headlined its first gig in basement of the legendary Court Tavern and on that very night parted ways with its original drummer Brian Winters.  A few weeks later the remaining members, front-man Paul Caffrey and bass player Damion Destefano, assured its fans via Facebook that Tango Machina would ride again and had found a more than sufficient replacement for the empty throne.

Last week, Tango Machina put a name to the mystery, and two weeks from tonight, when the band shares that same Court Tavern stage with Kid Is Qual, it will be backed by a stick wielder named Jesse Comerford.

“Jesse definitely brings something new to the band,” said Caffrey.  “He’s got some serious skills and Damion [Destefano] and I are happy to have him.”

According to Caffrey, Comerford has been playing for a while but “never in a serious band,” and not to add any more pressure to the situation, but, Winters’ proverbial shoes are no easy pair to fill.  Aside from the former drummer’s  live performances, from what was confirmed by the band in an interview done in September, Winters did some savage work in the recording studio for Tango’s highly anticipated debut EP.

“Brian fucking killed it,” said Destefano in that interview.  “He did some really sick fills on these tracks.”

Despite all of this, Caffrey and Destefano are very confident in what Comerford has shown in the trio’s short time together and will be taking their new drummer into the recording studio in the near future.

“Hopefully we’ll be back in the studio ASAP,” said Caffrey.  “It’s about time.”

“We’re currently getting him [Comerford] up to speed,” Caffrey continued, “but, we’ve already been able to work on some new material.  I just made him go out and buy a cowbell.  We’ll be back before you know it, and I think you’ll like what you hear.”

Although this has nothing to do with the story, and I can neither confirm nor deny its truth, I was instructed by Caffrey to inform all the ladies in the audience that Comerford bares a striking resemblance to a supporting actor in Remember The Titans and the star of The Notebook, Ryan Gosling.  So ladies, and gentlemen, be sure to make it down to the Court Tavern in New Brunswick on January 28th for Kid Is Qual and Tango Machina.
