Asbury Fuzz-Rock collective Gimme Drugs is a mystery. The four piece has been around for a few years, created a more than decent following along the Jersey Shore, performs at all the storied venues around Asbury, and all this without ever dropping an official release…until now.
On Friday night, while playing a solo set prior to Brick + Mortar‘s Asbury Lanes performance, Jesse Skokos, the band’s frontman and primary song writer, announced that Gimme Drugs would be releasing a pair of records in June, and later that night, the announcement was confirmed by the band’s manager Gordon Malkowski.
“Jesse writes new songs everyday,” said Malkowski. “It comes easy to him. That’s more than three years of material these guys have been sitting on and it’s finally coming out next month.”
I first saw Gimme Drugs perform three years ago at The College Of New Jersey and the guys were generous enough to give me a CD of rough demos that I still spin to this day. There is gold that resides on the demo disc and I can’t wait to see those tunes come to complete fruition…like “Someone.”
