Renown local artist and multi-instrumentalist, Joe Harvard, announced on Saturday afternoon that his prized lap steel had been stolen from the 607 Sunset Avenue residence in Asbury Park where it was stored. He released this statement via Facebook:
“Stolen: My main Supro Valco lap steel, cream and black ‘Mother of Toilet Seat’ finish (MOTS stands for Mother Of Toilet Seat), black pick guard is broken and repaired with yellow plastic paint protector strip. Case is a black, plastic, rectangular flight-type case with three latches, covered in decals and mixing board tape strips marked by city of shows. The case contains a bullet slide, coated in blue glass.”
The theft also included a purple Pacific 15-speed bicycle.
This instrument is extremely unique and one of Harvard’s primary means artistic expression. Its theft has caused a large communal outcry and amateur manhunt. Please be on the look out for this cherished piece of equipment so we can put it back in the proper hands that play it oh so soulfully.
