All Tomorrow’s Profiles…Your Guide To ATP AP: Shepard Fairey

The Final Friday in September will officially usher out the Summer season with one final artistic hurrah…an independent music festival of epic proportions, All Tomorrow’s Parties presents I’ll Be Your Mirror, that will take over the seaside haven we call home, the mecca of New Jersey music…Asbury Park.

Even some of the larger names on the bill might be of the obscurest nature to those music enthusiasts who have not devoted their time in this life to being a hipster (it’s sort of my job), and that’s where SIMGE comes in.  Feel free to use this site as your unofficial festival program, complete with music samples and artist profiles in 140 characters or less, because that newfangled Twitter thing has really caught on, and I’m riding it’s cyber coat tails…

Knowing Is Half The Battle:

  • In 1989, Fairey created the sticker campaign “Andre The Giant Has A Posse,” which later evolved into “Obey Giant,” and was heavily distributed within skater communities.  The tag line doesn’t have any true meaning as it is meant to cause folks to question their surroundings.
  • Fairey’s work received national acclaim in 2008 when his series of pro-Obama posters, most notably the “HOPE” piece, was essentially adopted by the President for his run to the White House.
  • In underground dane clubs Fairey goes by the aliases DJ Diabetic and Emcee Insulin…you’ll get to meet all three of them on September 30th.
NOTE: Album cover art created by Fairey over the years will be on display at a pop up gallery located on the boardwalk for the duration of the festival.
