Knowing is half the battle…
- The Bronx, NY Hip-Hop outfit hit the scene in 1984 and captivated audiences with its brand of sampling, an style considered to be abnormal at the time, that eventually revolutionized the game (hear the track below, then go listen toKanye and Jay’s “Otis”).
- Ultrmagnetic MC’s didn’t release its first record, Critical Beatdown, until 1988 but it’s influence was widespread and is considered one of the most important albums of all time to the genre.
- The group went a short hiatus in 1990, got back together to drop 1993’s The Four Horsemen, and then didn’t officially return again until 2007 with the release of The Best Kept Secret (Nobody really noticed that collection, unfortunately).
- During the absence, members of the squad continued to release music by themselves, none more successful than Kool Keith who is the self-proclaimed “creator of Horrorcore,” releasing such tracks under the monikers Dr. Octagon and Dr. Doom.
NOTE: Ultramagnetic MC’s will perform on Day 2 of the festival, Saturday October 1st.
