For as long as artists have been producing noise via instrumentals and amplifying that symphony of sound to an audience, music has always paralleled the societal mentality at that particular point in history, no genre of music more culturally revealing than that of Rock N’ Roll.
This style of music, and the players that took part, used to objectify women with album art, lyrical content, extracurricular activities, in an attempt to exclude females from this means of artistic expression, and it was socially acceptable…until now.
The female-fronted Rock outfit is no longer a rarity and this social evolution/revolution is none more evident than the lineup that will perform tonight at The Brighton Bar.
Every Wendesday evening The Brighton presents Reason, a musical showcase of local talent, and tonights theme is “Women Of Rock,” headlined by the Toms River-based Scantily Clad. The Progressive-Metal outfit recently released an EP dubbed Lips Of Sin, one of SIMGE’s favorites of the year. Be sure to grab it tonight.
Sharing the planks with Scantily Clad is Ocean Township’s own piano-led Indie-Rock collective Verity In Stereo; a group that dabbles in the nostalgic Pop-Rock medium of the unremembered ’80s, Princeton, NJ’s Lipstick & Cigarettes; and a fleet of Farmingdale Hard-Rockers named Vextion.
Doors are at 7 p.m. with a $5 cover charge to be paid upon admittance. Head out to The Brighton Bar and support your local music scene.
