“In this town, dreaming will get you nowhere” sings Root Glen vocalist Dave Moroney on “Lost in the Night,” the New Brunswick four piece’s latest single. Yet the band does indeed dream, as the track comes from the forthcoming Winter EP, the latest in a series of seasonally-themed releases (Winter follows Summer and Fall, of course). On “Night,” Moroney and fellow guitarist Ross Griswold lay down laid-back guitar lines that perfectly complement the head-noddingly catchy groove provided by bassist Andres Gonzalez and drummer/percussionist Eric Blank. The song calls to mind a quiet winter’s night at times, only to explode with a burst of energy in the chorus not unlike a strong gust of arctic air. If “Night” is any indication, Winter promises to be an EP that you’ll find yourself coming back to long after the season it’s named for has passed.
Root Glen has several are shows scheduled over the next two months in support of its Winter EP, which will officially drop in February, including a late-night promenade on January 28th at The Old Bay in New Brunswick (doors at 10 p.m. – $4 cover), a performance alongside Give Me Static at The Wonder Bar on February 16th (doors at 8 p.m. – $5 cover), and a show at Maxwell’s on February 29th (doors at 8 p.m. – $7 cover).
