On Friday evening a pair of the finest Garage-Rock outfits Asbury Park has to offer, Ba Babes and Birhwater, entered The Press Room and contorted the psyches of those in attendance with 45-minute sets apiece…enough time time to bend minds and melt the skulls they rest within via the latter’s fog encased compositions and psychedelia-laced fret work, and the charred, lo-fi palette from which the former operates.
Stream Ba Babes’ latest rendition of an old song, “Avon,” below and be sure to stop by the Langosta Lounge on Friday (March 2nd) where the group will be joined by Jeff Plate (Trans Siberian Orchestra) and his solo styling, as well as the Northern, NJ-based Indie-Rock collective Waking Lights, that’s brand of electrified Folk romps last frequented the Boardwalk in November when River City Extension tapped the group to play its second annual Thanksgiving showcase at The Stone Pony.
Waking Lights will be dropping a 12′ split record with New York City’s own Aunt Martha the following night (Saturday, March 3rd) at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ with a stacked lineup that includes Those Mockingbirds and The Nico Blues.
Grab a 13-track collection of Waking Lights numbers for free here.
Those Mockingbirds recently released its sophomore EP Fa Sol La, which landed at No. 12 on SIMGE’s Top 18 EPs of 2011 list. Grab a free download of the record here.
And, since we’re on the subject of The Nico Blues…the Wayne, NJ Indie-Rock collective dropped its sophomore release, an oxymoronic EP entitled Die Happy, today (February 29th) and are giving it to the masses for free. Stream the six-track collection’s lead single, “I Could Be Your Pet,” below and grab the entire compilation here.
While you’re at it, since bands in these parts are in the giving mood, you can get the aforementioned Aunt Martha’s 2012 EP, La La Lonesome, for free here.
And, in the wake of all this generosity, if you, the music collector and enthusiast happen to be in the market for Birthwater’s impressive 2011 full-length debut, Wet Water, you can pick it up for the low low price of Free-99 here.
FYI: Birthwater has signed on to play a benefit for the great Sound Station record store in Westfield, NJ on April 6th at The Loft in New Brunswick with The Grains, Marvin Berry & The New Sound, and more to be announced. A cover of $5 is to be paid upon entrance…more details to come.
