From a 10-band lineup featuring such local favorites as A Midnight Tragedy, Fishtank Mafia, I Am Fighting, and Quincy Mumford & The Reason Why, a pair of outfits, Asbury’s own Breathing Blue and Freehold, NJ’s The New Royalty, rose to the summit of a mountainous peak known as the Break Contest Invitational on Sunday evening at The Stone Pony, punching their tickets to the 10th Annual Bamboozle Festival that is set to make its return to the storied Boardwalk and beachfront from May 18-20th.

After churning out sets riddled with explosive originals, Breathing Blue looking ahead by delving into selections from its forthcoming full-length Inner Animal such as “This Isn’t About You” and “What I Gain,” and intriguing covers, like The New Royalty’s rendition of the Aerosmith classic “Dream On” (video below), the roar of the assemblage and the continual head nodding agreement of The Bamboozle Brass on hand told the tale: Breathing Blue will be returning to the Fest for the third consecutive year, while The New Royalty will be making its second trip back The Bamboozle.
