Cookman Avenue’s own music emporium has racks on racks on racks of vintage gems in stock, and will receive a vast array of brand new, limited edition, Record Store Day (RSD) releases for the fifth annual celebration of our nation’s independent music stores this Saturday (April 21st).
The vinyl hound’s Superbowl will kick off in Asbury Park at 10 a.m. when the doors open and the first 70 customers to step foot in Holdfast will receive promotional RSD tote bags full of different swag, including (but not limited to) CD’s from such labels as Metal Blade, Sub Pop, and Chunksaah (Owned and operated by The Bouncing Souls) plus other bonus gifts hidden in random bags.
There wil also be musical accompaniment by the likes of DJ Primative Sounds, DJ Ham Hands, DJ Bronco Billy, and DJ BDC, while later on in the afternoon and into the evening the Holdfast Brass have acquired the talents of such local favorites as the Asbury soundscape construction crew, Athletics, the psychedelia-laced Metal styling of Ruby The Hatchet, and special headlining set by Richie Birkenhead of Into Another.
Holdfast will carry limited pressing from such artists as The Black Keys, Billy Bragg, The Cicil Wars, Dave Hause, Iggy Pop, Joey Ramone, Lemuria, Operation Ivy, Patti Smith, The White Stripes and of course Bruce Springsteen’s traditional single, a 7″ that will include “Rocky Ground” and “The Promise.”
