Remembering Bobby Thomas (1936-2012)

Local Vocalist and founding father of that classic R&B sound associated with Asbury Park’s West Side, Bobby Thomas, passed away on Thursday morning due to complications with his diabetes.  Thomas’ croon carried him all the way to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1995 as a member of the Baltimore, MD-based R&B collective The Orioles, a group credited as the pioneers of the Doo-Wop sound.

Thomas’ impact on Asbury Park would come later on when he would found The Vibranaires, the city’s first R&B group and leader of a scene that would influence some of the Boardwalk’s favorite sons.
