Local Music Roundup (3/10/11)

Quincy Mumford Announces Details On New Record

Quincy Mumford’s third studio release, Speak, is finished.

“It’s a lot different than the last two,” said Mumford in a Youtube statement.  “It’s still got that style but it goes anywhere from singer-songwriter, to Funk, to Reggae, to borderline Hip Hop.  It’s a lot of craziness and a lot of high energy stuff on this record.”

Mumford went on to briefly discuss the impressive cast of musicians who collaborated with him on the upcoming release.

“Of course The Reason Why crew played on it,” admitted Mumford, “as well as Glen Burtnik one of my favorite song writers.  We actually wrote a song together and its featured on the album.”

Burtnik is a legendary local musician who, as a member of Cuts On A Smooth Surface, once The Stone Pony’s house band, shared the stage with the likes of Bruce Springsteen on a nightly basis.  He later went to play two stints with Styx.

Jack Daley was the other artist mentioned by Mumford.

“Daley is another one of the great musicians in the area,” said Mumford . “He was the bass player for Lenny Kravitz for 15 years and has also worked with Beyonce [Knowles].  He’s a great friend and I was glad to have him as a major part of the album.”

Mumford went on to say that Burtnik, Daley, and The Reason Why are only a handful of the musicians that will be joining him on stage at The Wonder Bar for his April 9th CD release party.

“There going to be lots of special guests.  The guys who played on the record as well as a horn section, a percussionist, and lots of other special guest musicians.”

Also on the bill for the release show is Wall’s Lemon Juice, and South Jersey collectiveThe Quixote Project.

Tickets for the show are in and cost $12.  Your ticket comes with a free CD at the door.  To pre-order tickets contact Quincy Mumford via Facebook or e-mail chris@quincymumford.com
